I'm still playing around with all these Web 2.0 sites.

The 3 (make that 4) that have made the best and most lasting differences for me so far are Netvibes, pbwiki and Twitter (Along with LoudTwitter).

Most of that is due to RSS feeds finally becoming much simpler and easier to use, so the learning curve is nowhere near as steep as it was in 2004 when I was first trying to understand them.

But I keep coming back to LJ for the best social interaction. The other sites are more useful for other things. Twitter for random thoughts or heat of the moment stuff, pbwiki for my online life conolidation, netvibes for RSS aggregation.

Input.
Consolidation.
Output.

Amazing how much of my life can be sorted so easily into those 3 overarching containers.

Here's the paradox. I want centralization for me. Just not anyone else to centralize me too much (Google's a little _too_ good at that for my taste).

I want my own portal, without being limited to using only one portal.

Server down on one, I hop to the next. Ideally.

Probably not going to happen.

/Random ramblings off.

"The announcement last Wednesday was a mistake in regards to Basic accounts, as the change was not clearly stated, it did not allow for you to provide feedback, and went into effect immediately. really should have been in NEWS instead of this post:

that caused such an uproar.

Wow, I was going to commerate my 5 years on Livejournal but, um, it's 6 now. Lots of the business background stuff irritates me, but it's still the best blog with built-in social aspects (IF wordpress had that function that's the blogging software I'd mainly be using). Funny thing is, I would have set up a paid account until the background business stuff turned me off that idea. It works well enough for me as it is for now.

I thought I was bored, which I don't usually get anymore, then I yawned for a minute and a half straight. Apparently, I'm not bored, just sleepy.

Repeating that word in the title has a more that 50% chance of working on native English language speakers, as in, they physically yawn after reading or hearing that word.

I wonder if there are similar words in other languages that cause a physical reaction or actions that cause a similar action in other countries?

Yawns here in the Southeast US are highly viral.

CT-Biography

My devilgirl and I are on our way to my Aunt and Uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary party in Indiana. My wife decided that since it was a 10-hour drive (minimum) we should stay in Louisville, Kentucky. I agreed and we headed out this morning.
All day yesterday I kept thinking of how we could have enough time to visit one of my friends (he was a groomsman at my wedding) who recently moved from Decatur, AL to Nashville, TN, then decided we probably wouldn’t have enough time.
So she drives up the first half and thinks she wants to stop at a Cracker Barrel, then, for reasons she’s unsure of, changes her mind. She sees a whole bunch of restraunts, but I distract her asking a question and she misses the exit. She rationalizes that since we’re probably going to have a big dinner, we should eat some small quick fast food. She pulls off for a Burger King. But neither she nor I see the building. Then we realize it’s on the other side of a truck stop as part of the same building. She pulls in and we find we can’t get to the Burger King Parking lot from the Truck Stop parking lot, and there’s no parking spaces. So we go out to the road and pull into the other side where the Burger King is.
While eating, we notice men with beards and no mustaches wearing suspenders at another table, and women with white bonnets on their head. At first I think they work at some tourist frontier village, then it occurs to me; they’re probably Quakers. Later, my wife corrects me and says they’re probably Amish. I mention how I thought it was odd that they were in a BK being against technology and all. She said they’re not all like that and some of them have found out they have to compromise to live in today’s world.
So they were leaving and my wife was trying to not look at the Amish when she saw my friend I just wrote about in the 2nd paragraph above. I don’t believe her, since he lives in Nashville and we’re already in Kentucky. She gets up, and it is he. He’s there with his father-in-law and they just stopped in to get something to go and some water for their dog. We agree to call him and his wife on the way back on Monday, since we know where we’re going that time. I mention how I was thinking about him most of the day before, and my wife mentions how she really wanted Cracker Barrel, but changed her mind.

Now, I understand that human brains always make patterns out of seemingly random events. We can’t help it. It’s the way we’re wired. Because of the random events and seemingly arbitrary decisions that led up in our lives to having been at the same spot, away from our regular respective homes, at the same time within a five-minute window of opportunity, I would say, “Freaky man.” But, really, this kind of stuff happens to me all the time.
I wonder how much of it is truly random-and how much my hindsight places patterns onto a complex series of events? In the past, “going with my gut” has never led me astray, but double-thinking my gut response or trying to be out-and-out logical has often failed me.
