Please consider signing this petition to have the City of Huntsville adopt the Complete Streets Policy. As you may or may not know Huntsville is the 2nd most deadly city in Alabama for pedestrians. The streets of our cities and towns are an important part of the livability of our communities. They ought to be for everyone, whether young or old, motorist or bicyclist, walker or wheelchair user, bus rider or shopkeeper. But too many of our streets are designed only for speeding cars, or worse, creeping traffic jams.
Now, in communities across the country, a movement is growing to complete the streets. States, cities and towns are asking their planners and engineers to build road networks that are safer, more livable, and welcoming to everyone.
Instituting a complete streets policy ensures that transportation planners and engineers consistently design and operate the entire roadway with all users in mind - including bicyclists, public transportation vehicles and riders, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.

That's not good. not good at all. Lowe Mill is already benefiting. It's already gone from alternative underground with the Flying Monkey Arts Center to above-ground with the Lowe Mill stuff aroudn it.

this happens againa and again ins city after city. The creative class risks going through and living in a rougher part of town, makes it more interesting and the new "cool" place to go and the upper crusts wants to kick out the pople who already live there? Let's not let Huntsville make the same mistake and instead work with people who need help instead of shuffling them off where some people dont' want to see them because it makes them "feel uncomforatble".

I'm really happy there's a skateboarding park, and very happy that Lydia Gold's name is attached to it.

I'm not so happy with the Huntsville Ordinances that prevent using skateboards as viable transportation options. They're extremely useful for actual transportation help, especially downhill.

I bought a good portion of my comics from the Tattoed Lady in the late 80s and early 90s.

Lydia Gold was the one who introduced me to the old black and white move, "The Haunting", based on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (who also wrote "The Lottery". I could never really thank her enough for that. She passed away too young.

The Yard Dogs Road Show at the Flying Monkey Arts center last night was pretty swell.

I'd been wanting to see them for a long time, and my wife insisted I should see them Monday, even though her schedule precluded her from seeing them. Then I promptly forgot about it.

I had a flat on my main bicycle yesterday (Tuesday) and didn't feel like taking the backup bike so I took the bus to work and walked home.

On my way walking home, I decided to stop by Bandito and get a taco and root beer and there was a flyer for The Yard Dogs Road Show, and I realized they were playing Tuesday night, too, and I could catch half of the remaining show. I walked to the Flying Monkey Arts Center as I destroyed my dinner.

Saw the Cat and seamusmoon there. Cat said I arrived just in time; that they were just starting. Mind you, it took me over an hour to get there after I got off at 8pm, the time they were supposed to start.

It was Burlesque, in the true sense of the word, with a sword swallower, a fire master, dancers, musicians, etc. They had funny bits in their acts, but no bad comedian, and they added rock and jazz type music to the show.

I remember when Cat mentioned years ago about the Flying Monkey venue, I remarked that it should have Burlesque shows. While there isn't a regular one, there is the Yard Dogs Road Show which fills out that bill quite nicely.

Straight strippers leave me cold. Burlesque is entertaining to me.
