My devilgirl and I went to see this yesterday. She really liked it, I thought it was just okay. It was such a chick flick. Performances were good, the story was, well, a chick lit chick flick story so not so great for sf/scifi/superhero/horror-loving me, but great for the audience it was shooting for. I thought it odd that they had an arrangement of "Brother, Can you Spare A Dime", a quintessentially American song about the Great Depression being used for an English pre-WWII setting. I also found it odd that Frances McDormand, a fantastic American actress was the English lead. But--she
is fantastic. Amy Adams reminds me so much of a young Judy Garland in a good way. It's just weird seeing that type of performace again in the modern era (though it was period piece). I like it, however. However, the jazzy soundtrack was
awesome and I will soon purchase a copy of said soundtrack if I can determine which DRM-free format I want it in.
